Our Beginings

Officially founded by proud Wirangu and Kokatha man Pauly Vandenbergh in 2022, the concept for Munda Wines had been quietly fermenting for years.

As the founder of groundbreaking joint venture Wanna Mar Produce, Pauly was the first Aboriginal holder of a commercial tuna licence in South Australia. Inevitably the question arose of what wine pairs best with a chargrilled bluefin tuna steak fresh from the waters off the Far West Coast.... and Munda Wines was born!

The journey began with the release of the 2021 Syrah from Kaurna Country (McLaren Vale), followed by Grenache from Ngadjuri and Peramangk Country (Barossa Valley). What began as two wines has now grown into a national collection — with plans to explore new Countries, varieties, and expressions of munda in the years to come.

Our Mission

At Munda Wines, our mission is simple — and deeply rooted. We honour the munda, the land, the Country as both our inspiration and our responsibility. It’s a concept older than ‘terroir’, richer than place alone. It’s the source of life, culture, and story. We believe that when we care for munda, munda will care for us.

Our wines are a reflection of that relationship. Our aim isn’t to chase trends or reinvent the wheel — it’s to reveal what the land already knows. We elevate the classic varietals Australia does best, in the places they shine.

For us, wine is a vessel. A way of sharing stories that stretch back over 65,000 years — and forward into something more meaningful for the generations to come.

In doing so, we aspire to offer something both accessible and meaningful: a conversation that begins in the glass, but reaches far beyond it.

How we work

We do business in a way that centres culture, inclusion, and integrity and opens doors into deeper understanding and conversations that matter.

In partnership with grape growers and winemakers who share our belief in respectful, long term stewardship and a desire to tell the story of munda, we craft wines that express the character and essence of Traditional Countries from across Australia.

We proudly proclaim and elevate Traditional Country on every front label, borne from a desire to empower, educate and share.

We have established and respectful relationships with Traditional Owners in all the regions where we make wine. We have permission to share their knowledge and stories, and a responsibility to do so with integrity and respect.

We invest in real-world impact: through our work with the Tjindu Foundation, the Aboriginal Basketball Academy, and future programs in viticulture and hospitality, we’re creating long-term pathways for Aboriginal youth into wine and beyond.

Meet our Founder

I’ve seen firsthand how opportunity changes lives. My work is about creating more of it — for our young people, for our communities, and for Country.
