Munda Wines GM Jess Greatwich recently had the opportunity to spend some time in Far North Queensland, on the Traditional Country of the Kuku Yalanji people.

Taste of Port Douglas is a special kind of food and drink festival, and there's good reasons it's been going strong for ten years now.

We were thrilled to be invited to participate in the Moffat Masterclass series, working with good friend (and one of the hottest chefs in Australia right now....) Mindy Woods to co-host a cooking demonstration with paired wines in the stunning Harrrison's Restaurant.

The Masterclass series is the perfect fit for Munda Wines - small groups of thirty people or so, a setting where we can wander around the group and have a good chat, the chance to share our stories, and a deeper knowledge of our wines and the Traditional Countries where they originate from. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful location, nicer weather or a better co-host - it was a dream assignment!

  • Mindy and Jess - dream team!
  • The office for the day....
  • Chef mode
  • Beautiful native ingredients for the day's dish

And, if we're going to make the trek to FNQ, of course we took the opportunity to meet up with some hospitality partners, with meetings at NuNu, Silky Oaks Lodge, and the Danintree Eco Resort (where it was reported to us that a few days earlier our wines were served to none other than Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, Princess Sālote Mafileʻo Pilolevu Tuita of Tonga. Extraordinary!).

  • NuNu Restaurant at Palm Cove
  • Not the worst place for a lunch meeting... Spot the Munda!

But the highlight of the trip was undoubtable the landscape. The rainforest country, the wide, meandering streams, the incredible views - more than once I felt like I'd stepped straight into the pages of Where the Forest Meets the Sea by Jeannie Baker (there's a blast from the past!)

I took the opportunity to visit Mosman Gorge through the Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre, which is operated by the Kuku Yalanji community and was fortunate to be able to bring home a beautiful piece of artwork now hanging proudly on Ngadjuri and Peramangk Country.

Our sincere thanks to all the venues and partners who hosted us during our visit. We've already booked out the dates for next year ;-)

You can also buy a copy of Mindy's beautiful book Karkalla at Home through her website.
